Didier Hoffmann was born in Paris in 1956. He’s living and working in Paris area.

Fond of music, he’s playing guitar since he is very young. He discovered jazz, which influenced him strongly. He began painting as he was seventeen and studied at the school of Pantin.

In 1981, he received the silver medal from the Institut Supérieur de Peinture Van Der Kelen in Brussels, Belgium.

He passionated himself for abstract art and set up his first exhibitions in 1984 in Paris.

In 1989, he made a decisive encounter with François Tapié - Michel Tapié’s son, famous 50’s art critic who was strongly supported lyrical abstraction and informal art in France.

François Tapié will give Didier Hoffmann the opportunity to show his work, based on gesture improvisation, alongside famous artists such as Alechinsky, Goto (of Japanese group Gutaï), Ossorio, Saura, Shiraga.

He will exhibit D. Hoffmann’s paintings several time in his Montparnasse Gallery - Gallery 16.

From 1991 to 2000, D. Hoffmann worked in large parisian flats as a painter-decorator while practicing in his studio.

Since 2000, he fully devotes himself to his painting research, increasing rhythm in geometrical abstraction.

He was selected 4 times (2006 – 2007 – 2008 – 2009) to exhibit his work at Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Parc Floral de Vincennes, a leading exhibition of abstract painting in Paris.

Abstraction, rhythm, geometrisation, light, elevation, improvisation, colors contrast, retina’s vibration are key-words of his painting.

He loves this quote from Saint-Exupéry : “Perfection is reached not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to remove”.
